Artist's statement for Voyage
This is an installation sculpture made for this site. The materials are saplings (birch, maple cherry and willow) that are gathered from around the Sackville Waterfowl Park. The inspiration for this work came from a roundel on the corner of the window molding (that is unique to me) in the parlor of the Boultenhouse Heritage Centre in Sackville.
This art is part of the site as the reflection is part of the art. This art is a conduit to see nature in another way and enjoy art along with it. I hope the work speaks of a quiet experience which lets the birds take rest and shelter on, and below, the sculpture.

Il s’agit d’une installation conçue en fonction du site. J’ai utilisé de jeunes arbres qui proviennent des environs du Parc de la sauvagine - bouleaux, érables, cerisiers et saules. Je me suis inspiré d’une décoration unique aperçue sur la moulure d’une fenêtre du salon du musée Boultenhouse à Sackville. L’art fait partie du site tout comme la réflexion fait partie de l’art. Par l’intermédiaire de cette sculpture, nous pouvons appréhender la nature autrement, tout en appréciant l’œuvre elle-même. J’espère que l’œuvre est l’écho d’une expérience paisible qui permet aux oiseaux de se reposer et de se réfugier sur ou sous la sculpture.
