Artist's statement for Installation XIV/08
By piling birch trunks one upon the other, the artist’s objective was to find out if it was possible to move from the horizontal position of the first element through to the vertical.
In this exploratory process, each trunk added to the stack requires an adjustment, a reaction, a counterbalance to obtain a homogeneous, stable mass. The shape is sculpted progressively by weaving the pieces, managing the tensions and gravity.
The resulting sculpture strives to be in total harmony with the environment. The choice of birch as material was dictated by its availability on the site. The movement of the form was inspired by the grasses that bend and lay down with the action of wind and storms.

L’objectif de départ était de vérifier s’il était possible, en empilant des troncs de bouleaux, de passer de l’horizontale du premier élément posé à la verticale.
Dans ce processus exploratoire, chaque tronc ajouté au tas demande un ajustement, une réaction, à être contrebalancé pour obtenir une masse homogène, équilibrée. La forme progressivement s’affine, découlant d’un travail d’entrelacement, de gestion des tensions mises en œuvre et de la gravité.
Le résultat se veut être en totale harmonie avec l’environnement. Le choix du bouleau s’est imposé par son omniprésence sur le site. Le déploiement de la forme a été inspiré par les herbes qui s’inclinent et se couchent suite aux aléas du vent et des orages.
