Town Council’s Citizens Advisory Committee on Policing, which began monthly meetings in September, is seeking the public’s input as it strives to fulfill its mandate to consider community policing needs.

Chaired by Shawn Mesheau, the committee is seeking the community’s input on the various issues that affect the quality of life in our community. Committee members have also interviewed representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Mount Allison. Representatives of other civic groups will be invited to appear at future meetings.

“The number of written responses to date is less than what we hoped for so we are going to try harder to get out to the community. We understand that people are busy and there are many demands on their time. It is clear to us that we have to try a little harder to get out there and get some feedback,” says Mesheau. “Our objective is not to focus on whether Sackville should or should not continue with RCMP services. The committee is directed to look at how well community-based policing is carried out,” continued Mesheau.

Other committee members are Wayne Anderson, Chris Porter, Donna Ward, Louis Lambe, Barb Wheaton, and Gerry Bartlett.

“A survey will be delivered to citizens’ mail boxes in the near future and we really hope that people take just a couple of minutes to fill them out and get them back to us. We really do want to know what they see as our community’s needs,” said Mesheau. The completed surveys can be placed in drop boxes located at Town Hall and Canada Post on Main St. or filled out electronically and emailed to the Committee’s email address, which is sackville.nb.police.advisory@gmail.com

The Town of Sackville has created a page for the Police Advisory Committee on the Town’s website. That page can be found in the “Our Community” section of the website. This page will provide the public with updates, mandates, links and other relevant information.
