Come join the fun at Sackville's 5th Annual Winterfest from Friday February 3rd to Sunday February 5th, 2012 - activities and events for all the family.

Winterfest Schedule:
Friday, February 3rd
11 am - 1 pm: Legion Winterfest Luncheon, Royal Canadian Legion, 15 Lorne St. Delicious menu of beef stew, apple crisp, tea & coffee. Cost $8.00 per plate. All are welcome! For more info call 364-9900
6 - 8 pm: Skating & Sledding, Mount Allison Swan Pond, Main St. Music provided by A-Live Sound. Hot Chocolate provided. Donations accepted. Event is weather dependant
6:30 - 7:30 pm: Crowning of Mr. & Mrs. Winterfest, Snowman Contest Awards, Music by Bordertown, Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre, 182 Main St. Crowning of Mr & Mrs. WinterFest sponsored by Mount Allison Student Union. Enjoy some old-time rock’n’roll with the band Bordertown. Light refreshments provided.
9 - 11:30 pm: Dance with Bordertown Band, Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre, 182 Main St. Must be 19 & over. Start your Winterfest weekend off by coming out to enjoy some good old-time Rock ‘n’ Roll, Old and New Country, and a general mixture of music with Bordertown. Admission is $5. Members of the band are Ernie Sears & Larry Landry (Guitar & Vocalist) Colin Welner (Base) & special guest Eddie Chase (Guitar & Vocalist). Bar will be open. Please don’t drink and drive. Get a designated driver or call a cab.
Saturday, February 4th
7 - 11 am: Winterfest Breakfast, Tantramar Regional High School, 223 Main St. The 2012 Graduates at Tantramar Regional High School will be serving a hearty breakfast of eggs, sausage, beans, toast and beverages (coffee, tea, juice). Cost: $7/person. Children under 5 eat for free! Note: Cancelled if storming
8am - 6:30 pm: Curl for Cancer, Sackville Curling Club. The 22nd Annual Fundraiser for cancer research. Live entertainment, refreshments, guest speakers and more! Come out and cheer for your favourite team and participate in this perennial favourite at the Curling Club-while raising money for a good cause! For info contact Wayne Harper 536-2340
9:30 am - 6 pm: Tantramar ATV Club Winter Poker Run Registration takes place at 9:30 am at the top of Mount View Road (Andrew Wheaton’s Camp). The trip will not be formally marked, but a trail map and directions will be provided. The cost is $10 for ATV Federation Members and $15 for Non-Members. Please be prepared for a daylong trip. 1 – 4 pm: WinterFest Family Fun Day, Beech Hill Park. Family sleigh rides, disc golf, sledding, snow sculpturing and snowman building. Great music provided by A- Live Sound. There will be hot chocolate, hot dogs and some old fashioned homemade beans. Donations accepted with proceeds going to Marshview Middle School’s Grade 8 trip to Quebec. Bring your own sled for the awesome man-made hills or use one of the tubes provided. Event is weather dependent.

1:30 - 3:30 pm: Family Ski Clinic by the Tantramar Outdoor Club, Beech Hill Park. A great opportunity to come and try cross country skiing & snow shoeing! All are welcome. A small number of skis and snowshoes will be available on a first come first served basis, compliments of Salem Elementary School and the Tantramar Outdoor Club.
1 - 4 pm: Winterfest Trivia Challenge, Beech Hill Park. Challenge your family to complete this special trivia challenge that will take you on a walk through Beech Hill Park. Answer questions to collect letters along the route, and spell a word at the end to win the challenge. Enter your family's name for a chance to win a Family Literacy Fun Prize from the Tantramar Family Resource Centre! For more information, call 939-8372, or email tfrcoffice@eastlink.ca.
2 – 5 pm: Chili Cook –Off!, Sackville United Church, 112 Main St. Rotary Club of Sackville/Mount A Rotaract Club’s Chili Cook –Off! Come and taste the Chilis and vote for your favourites! Best All-round, Best Vegetarian, Best Spicy! Cost: $5 per person at the door. Want to make your chilli recipe for this event? Call: Mary Sears @ 536-3430 before January 31.

9 pm: Sue Foley and Peter Karp, presented by Tantramarsh Blues Society,George¹s Roadhouse, 67 Lorne St. Sue Foley and Peter Karp (Ottawa and NYC), This critically acclaimed acoustic duo performs music based on a CD that was #1 on the Blues charts for 6 weeks. The music itself originates from a correspondence between the two artists that records their respective trials and tribulations, which eventually became songs. The thing is that both are musicians with strong independent careers of their own. Sue Foley is perhaps the preeminent female guitar-singer in Canada who began her career with bang by recording with Antone¹s many moons ago. Sunday, February 5th 
2 pm: Winterfest Free Movie: Jack Frost, Vogue Cinema, 9 Bridge St. Jeff Coates, owner and operator of Vogue Cinema will be hosting a family movie! Come early!
2 – 4 pm: Winterfest Family Sunday, Owens Art Gallery, 61 York St. Drop by Owens to make your own one-of–a-kind valentines. Have fun with stamps and stencils as you create colourful matching cards and envelopes. 2 pm: Atanarjuat The Fast Runner Film Screening, Mount Allison Wu Centre. Zacharias Kunuk, renowned Inuk director will be introducing and screening his internationally celebrated film "Atanarjuat The Fast Runner" at Mount Allison University. Kunuk is one of Canada’s most celebrated filmmakers, with Atanarjuat The Fast Runner being the first Inuktitut language feature film ever made and having won numerous awards, including the Caméra D’or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002, six Genie awards, including for Best Picture and Best Director, and being voted one of the most important Canadian films ever made by the Toronto International Film Festival.
