Summer Activities

Over the summer months Sackville is an active town! We host running events, a triathlon, a new Nordic Walking Club, and our own Rod & Gun club. There are lakes, rivers and ocean to explore, as well as trails and parks, including Beech Hill Park and the award winning Sackville Waterfowl Park. Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a unique form of fitness walking that is perfect for taking advantage of the great outdoors. Recommended by cardiac specialists, Nordic Walking burns up to 40% more calories during your walk using specially designed poles to engage your upper body and reduce impact on your knees and joints. Canoeing & Kayaking

Lake and river opportunities include Gaspereau River, Silver Lake and Tintamarre National Wildlife Area. Coastal canoeing and kayaking can take place in Shepody Bay, Baie Verte and the Northumberland Strait. Please note that our coastal waters have strong currents in some places. Clay Bird Shoots

From May to the end of September the club holds clay bird shoots every Monday night at Landing Road. Contact: Wayne Berry 536-0627

Golf

The nine-hole Sackville Golf & Country Club located at 42 Fairfield Road. Club rentals, power carts available. Licensed clubhouse has a snack counter, which operates on weekends. Contact: 536-3437

Fishing

Try fishing at the Jolicure Lakes near Jolicure (on the way to PEI) and at Joe Brook, on Mount View Road. Fishing on the Tantramar River in Sackville will also provide opportunities for catching trout and perch. Ice fishing on Silver Lake will reward the patient fisherman with brown trout. The local trout season extends from April 15 to September 30. Non-residents must acquire a valid NB Sport Fishing License. Three-day, seven-day and seasonal licenses can be obtained at the Service New Brunswick office in Sackville. Once purchased, these licenses may be used at any NB location.

Supervised Swimming

Lillas Fawcett Park, Silver Lake
Park Hours: Daily 9:00am-9:00pm
The Department of Community Development Programming & Tourism is pleased to provide lifeguard supervision in the designated swimming area at Silver Lake DAILY from 11:00am-7:00pm. This service will be offered from June 30 - September 3.

Picnics, Walking & Hiking

Sackville Waterfowl Park
Over three kilometres of trails, boardwalks and viewing platforms lead you, dry shod, through lush stands of alder and cattail and across broad expanses of open water, revealing the private lives of dozens of wetland wildlife species. Bird watching in the Waterfowl Park is best during the dawn and dusk hours of the day. Park open from dawn to dusk. Free admission.
Guided tours available mid May to late August, $6/person, $12/family (2 adults, 2 children). A 1 1/2 hour walk with historical and natural interpretation Tour includes: Use of binoculars; ginger snaps and lemonade served on the cedar deck. Call 364-4967 for more information

Bill Johnstone Memorial Park
Featuring basketball area, tennis courts and one of the best outdoor playground areas (2 full size large play structures) in Southeast New Brunswick. Located in the heart of downtown Sackville behind Bandstand Park and the Sackville Public Library.

Beech Hill Park
This wooded area just off the Transcanada Highway Exit 500 provides an excellent spot for picnicking and a good rest stop. Picnic tables and outdoor washrooms are available. The park also has walking trails and a panoramic view of the Tantramar Marsh. In winter, Beech Hill Park becomes the main area for cross-country skiing. Enjoy three trails covering 1.8, 3.0, and 5.0 kilometres through the forest area. Start at the signpost in the park and follow the coloured trail markers for a delightful scenic winter-escape. Walking Tours
Enjoy a walking tour of downtown Sackville and learn about heritage sites, artworks and some of the many famous and interesting people who have lived in Sackville. The Sackville Arts Walk and the Historical Downtown Sackville walking tour map guides are available at accommodations and shops as well as at the Sackville Visitor Information Center, 34 Mallard Drive or call 364-4968.

Sporting Events

David MacAulay 5K Folly Around mid-May each year. Shake off the winter blues and enjoy the first 5km run of the season in Sackville. Contact: John Peters 364-2403

Canada Day Multi-K Run July 1. Beginning at noon, this annual event starts at the Bandstand Park. Complete a 2km, 5km, or 10km, loop. Prizes for those in the most red & white! Contact: Graeme Stewart 536-3559

Terry Fox Run Sunday September 16, 2012. 5km loop and 10km loop for bikers and runners and walkers. Pledge forms are available in advance from the Department of Community Development & Programming. Help find a cure for cancer! Contact: 364-4958

Main Street Mile Saturday, September 22, 2012. Start time 1:00pm. One of the many events for the annual Sackville Fall Fair, this 1-mile sprint begins outside Windsor Hall on the MTA Campus and finishes at Salem Elementary School, just prior to the Fall Fair Parade.
