Culture Day in Sackville

Culture Days New Brunswick is holding events province wide during the week of September 20th-26th. Sackville is holding their own events on Wednesday, September 22nd from 1:00-2:00pm around downtown Sackville.

There are ten different venues where students artists will be demonstrating their talent. They include The Fog Forest Gallery, Jean Coutu, Joey's, Mel's, the Post Office, Royal Bank, Save Easy, Scotiabank, Tidewater Books and the Thrift Store.

The mission statement for the event is promotion and awareness of the importance of arts in our communities. The Arts and Culture Marketing class at Mount Allison University as a class are then bringing these ideas to Sackville.

All are invited to visit the above venues.

Screening of Documentary on Shale Gas

Public Invited To Free Screening Of Documentary On Shale Gas

A free public screening of the award-winning documentary film Gasland will be shown at the Vogue Cinema on Wednesday, September 22 starting at 7 pm. Admission will be free.

While admission is free, there will be a donation box with monies raised going to the Conservation Council of New Brunswick.

Immediately following the presentation of the film there will be an opportunity for discussion facilitated by representatives from the Conservation Council of New Brunswick.

Owens Art Gallery Reception to Unveil New Work

Dan Steeves: crossing a threshold Owens Art Gallery Reception to unveil new artwork.

On Wednesday 22 September at 7:30 pm the Owens Art Gallery will unveil an important new donation of a large-scale print entitled crossing a threshold by Dan Steeves, gifted to the Gallery by the Campbell-Verduyn Family. The print, which incorporates the image of a football game, is the result of a complex, multi-stage printmaking process. Visitors can view the print along with the zinc plates used in production, the artist’s drawings, a video interview, and footage of the artist demonstrating various techniques used in the etching.

Dan Steeves is a graduate of Mount Allison University and a Lecturer and Technician in the Fine Arts Department. He has exhibited widely in Canada and internationally, and is the recipient of the 2007 Strathbutler Award recognizing his outstanding contribution to the arts in New Brunswick.
