Proving that African grandmothers will stop at nothing to bring their message to the world, from September to November the AfriGrand Caravan, created by the Stephen Lewis Foundation, will travel across the country – visiting 40 communities – with African grandmothers and granddaughters. Sackville is one of those communities. On September 12, the Caravan will be stopping in Sackville for the day and the visiting grandmother and granddaughter will be making two presentations. The first will be on the Mount Allison University campus at 12:00 noon in Crabtree Auditorium and the second will be at the Sackville United Church at 2:30pm. Everyone is invited. The AfriGrand Caravan will create a forum for the Africans to tell their stories, share their strategies, and talk about their challenges and triumphs in dealing with the ravages of AIDS. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have been inspired by the courage and resilience of women, men and young people on the frontlines of the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa. The AfriGrand Caravan is a response to their outpouring of concern, compassion and commitment. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for people across Canada and in Sackville, in particular, to connect directly with African women and girls at the heart of grassroots efforts to turn the tide of AIDS. The event is being sponsored by the Mount Allison Students’ Administrative Council and the nascent Sackville Grandmothers/Others to Grandmothers group.
