Visiting Artist Lecture - Hermenegilde Chaisson

The Mary (West) Pratt and Christopher Pratt Visiting Artist Lecture

Herménégilde Chiasson, Crabtree Auditorium. A reception at Owens Art Gallery< 61 York Street, directly follows lecture. January 15, 2010. 7:30 pm

Herménégilde Chiasson is considered one of the most important representatives of modern Acadia. A leading arts and cultural figure, Chiasson has written more than 25 books and 30 plays, and directed more than 15 films. As a visual artist (painter, printmaker, and photographer) he has produced 40 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 100 group shows. His work can be found in many public and private collections. Chiasson was recently appointed Artist in Residence at both Mount Allison University and the Université de Moncton for the 2009-2010 academic year. He has also served as New Brunswick’s Lieutenant Governor (2003-2009), worked as a journalist and producer for Radio-Canada, and instructed as a professor and film director at the Université de Moncton. He holds honorary degrees from Mount Allison University and Laurentian University. As well, he has received numerous grants, awards, and prizes for his work as an artist and with the Acadian community, including twice being awarded the Prix France-Acadie. He has also acted as an executive member of the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Mary (West) Pratt and Christopher Pratt Visiting Artist Lectures are supported by an endowment established by Mount Allison University’s Class of ’57 in recognition of their classmates Mary (West) Pratt and Christopher Pratt. The lecture is also supported by the Marjorie Young Bell Distinguished Visitors Fund. These annual lectures explore the role of art in the human experience.

Joe Murphy & the Waterstreet Blues Band

Joe Murphy & the Waterstreet Blues Band will be at George's Roadhouse, 67 Lorne Street, Sackville, NB on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 9:00 pm. Joe is touring to support his brand new album She Moves Me, which features the harmonica playing of Bharat Rajajumar. He brings with him a crack band and will keep the room hopping all night long.

Tickets $10 in advance (Ducky's) and $12 at the door, students $6 (ID required) at the door. This concert is a special fundraiser for CHMA.

Concert at Struts Gallery

Struts Gallery and Faucet Media Arts Centre (7 Lorne Street) presents Jon Mckiel and DUZHEKNEW(Adam O'Reilly), in concert, Friday, January 15th, at 9:00 pm. Open to all ages, admission $5.00.

Jon writes some of the most beautiful indie-pop songs, by combining deep pop sensibilities with rich descriptive lyrics and haunting melodies.

Adam O'Reilly makes music under the name of Duzheknew, jangled pigeon dancing, lots of guitar amps, honest lyrics, yelps, leaps, feedback, quiet, introspection, performance.
