Sackville Public Library Summer Activities

On Friday, August 1 the Sackville Public Library will be having a Games Day, for ages 4 - 10, from 10:30 am - 11:30 am.

The summer activites are free and take place at the library, located at 66 Main Street.

Ken Gregory's Acoustic Kite Making Workshop

Struts Gallery welcomes Ken Gregory to Sackville (July 6 - August 10). During his stay, he will be conducting an Acoustic Kite Making Workshop for all ages. This workshop will be an opportunity to work with kites, sound and electronics to create an astounding array of sound makers. It will be held at the Struts Gallery, 7 Lorne Street, from 2 - 5 pm on Tuesday, July 29 & Thursday, July 31th. On Friday, August 1st, from 2 - 4 pm, workshop participants will be treated to a Kite Flying 'Concert' finale. For more information on this workshop, call 536-1211 or email amelia@strutsgallery.ca. Sackville's Ears

The OK. Quoi?! Contemporary Arts Festival presents Sackville's Ears. An exciting musical collaboration by WL Altman with professional musicians The Sackville Citizens Band and The Bostick Childrens Music Camp. Friday, August 1, 4:30 pm at the Sackville Music Hall, 4A Bridge Street. This event is FREE. All are wlcome!

Ok.Quoi?! Contemporary Arts Festival

OK.Quoi?! is an interdisciplinary festival of contemporary art, focusing on video, audio, new and independent music. The festival is produced by Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre in partnership with Motion Ensemble, Sappy Records and CHMA 106.9 FM. The works of over 40 artists will be presented over 6 days in a variety of screeings, concerts, broadcasts and on the world wide web. Alongside exciting international and national work, OK.Quoi?! features new and innovative projects from local and regional artists. Local composer W.L. Altman is the 2008 Composer-in-Residence. As Composer-in-Residence, Altman will be performing a new work, tentatively called "Sackville's Ears," which will be a collaborative piece involving Altman and other professional musicians, along with community musicians, the Sackville Citizens Band, and children from the Bostick Summer Music Camps. EVENING Last Chance for Summer Romance Outdoor Concert BBQ and live musical performances by Julie Doiron (Sackville), Shotgun Jimmie (Sackville), Jim Bryson (Ottawa) and Old Man Luedecke (Halifax). A beer garden will also be on site.

Communities In Bloom

New Neighbourhood Contest for 2008. Can you make your street look the best in 2008? If your street is interested in joining this fun and friendly competition, contact Angela Hastie at 364-4930. Local judges will tour the community in July and judge the neighbourhoods.

The two Communities In Bloom judges this year will be arriving on Thursday, July 31. Our judges are scheduled to be Brendan Casement and Jim Moore, both have judged Sackville in the past. The tour and evaluation of the community will be Friday, August 1. The judges will be looking for new initiatives and keeping an eye on the maintenance of the community. The judges are scheduled to depart on Saturday, August 2.

Last year we were awarded 5 blooms, the highest number possible. Updates to follow.
